Katschberg - Rennweg
Between an abundance of sunshine and fresh mountain air, adventures and an extensive activity program, heartfelt hospitality and relaxation, the holiday region of Katschberg offers numerous happy summer moments for families and young mountain enthusiasts.
The holiday region of Katschberg lies at the Tauernhauptkamm, to the south of the main Alpine ridge. Between 1,150 and 2,220 metres altitude, and directly at the border between Carinthia and the Salzburg region, Katschberg is a particularly charming holiday destination for families and alpine lovers. The low-in-allergens altitude on the sunny side of the Alps ensures clear views and fresh mountain air.
The region offers unique nature experiences with 200 kilometres of hiking trails including stunning views, gentle hills and summit ascents, and cosy alpine huts. Especially for families, there are also paths suitable for prams, which lead to family-friendly alpine huts with play areas, pony meadows or petting zoos. A “stream adventure hike” through the nature reserve Pöllatal can also be combined with a ride on a nostalgic choo-choo train.
Besides hiking, numerous sportive activities are offered in the region, such as geocaching tours, horse riding, (e-)mountain biking, fishing, canyoning or rafting tours, swimming, rock climbing or at a high wire adventure park, quad riding and segway driving as well es tennis, football or volleyball facilities.
An extensive, largely free-of-charge, activity program, endless hiking and outdoor activities and excursion opportunities through the ideal location with easy and fast access via A10 Tauern motorway in a mountainous and tranquil environment guarantee an unforgettable holiday in the Austrian Alps.
The summer activities programme at the Katschberg is almost endless – and often even free. This includes guided hikes, fishing excursions, introductory climbing, archery or ball sport days. The cable car on the Aineck is in operation during the summer.
A choo-choo train goes through Alpine meadows and past rugged mountain slopes, directly into the nature reserve Pöllatal, which has been distinguished by the EU, due to its rich flora and fauna. In the adventure park Katschberg, all generations can look forward to an exciting adventure. On the obstacle course through the treetops of Katschberg forest, you can prove your skill and courage. According to age group, various obstacles must be overcome.
The enchanting natural landscape plays its part in making all family members feel good. Because, behind the numerous trees and cliffs, there are just as many adventures waiting.
Treasure hunters will hit the jackpot on Aineck. A total of 12 small treasure troves are
hidden along the signposted walking route. Young (and adult) detectives are fitted with a GPS device, and they’re off!
Katschhausen - Children’s Adventure World
Younger children find out that the forest is the most beautiful classroom in the world, in the children’s natural experience world “Katschhausen”. Imaginative play stations feature slides, seesaws, colouring workshop, bridges and water world, petting zoo and picnic site. The “Katschling Family” will playfully familiarise the kids with natural phenomena and invites them to solve riddles and participate while they romp around, play, paint and explore the surroundings.
Registry office at 1850m
The region of Katschberg offers romantics an unforgettable backdrop for the dream wedding:
From July to September the Gamskogel hut at 1,850 metres altitude becomes the local branch of the registry office, and is therefore one of the highest registry offices in Austria. Directly opposite the Gamskogel hut, there is also the charming Chapel of Our Lady, in which the church (protestant) wedding can take place afterwards. All of this takes place against a stunning mountain backdrop, between lush meadows and imposing mountain panoramas.
Austria’s highest brewery
Since 2015, the original “Katschbeer” is brewed at 1.670m above sea level at Katschberg. Only Austrian ingredients as well as best Katschberg spring water is used to produce the beer. For those, who would like to take a look behind the scenes of the beer production, it can be visited anytime. Also guided tours are provided regularly.
The cable car on the Aineck is in operation during the summer and open from Sunday to Friday, from 9.00 am till 04.00 pm.
